Mary S. Biescker Public Library (MSB) is seeking to fill the following position immediately:


Technology & Community Coordinator / Internet Checkout Supervisor

Full-time salaried position - minimum 35 hours per week, starting salary of $40,000.00 -$50,000.00, including a benefits package, with final terms to be negotiated commensurate with experience.

In search of a suitable applicant capable of bringing incredible energy, vision, and action to our community library. A Master's degree in Library Science is preferred. Applicants with a Bachelor's or Master's degree and/or job experience in related fields will also be considered. Roles will include and may not be limited to:

 

1). Internet Checkout Supervisor:

~ 10-15 Hours per week

 Be the team leader and primary decision maker for our Library Internet Checkout Program, which currently is experiencing steady growth, bringing in more than $600,000 in annual revenue and circulating ~1400 devices each month.

Learn how to implement and supervise the day-to-day workflow for this growing program

Learn all aspects of the technology that support this program, and be ready to adapt the program in the most informed way possible as changes are needed.

Lead, manage, and educate a group of at least 3 staff members from both MSB & Somerset County Library (SCL) who implement the day-to-day operations as part of an “Internet Checkout Support Team.”  Oversee training of new team members as needed.

Monitor and occasionally take action on the Internet Checkout Support Line during some morning, evening, and weekend hours as needed in the interest of weaving together an efficient plan for the support team, who will be providing support during set hours.

Provide big-picture guidance and a vision for the program in cooperation with our primary partners (T-Mobile, Square, and SCL) in a dynamic and constantly changing environment of technology and business.

2.  Technology Coordinator:

~ 0-5 Hours per week

Direct & troubleshoot all in-house IT needs for the library. Most of the library’s IT footprint incorporates redundancy and is fairly reliable.

Manage local network, internet connections, wifi, printers, phones, & fax

Manage hardware, including public/staff Chrome/Windows/Mac OS’s, RFID & barcode scanners, A/V scanning machines, smart TV & and AV/video equipment

Manage technology portals to support EV chargers and parking lot solar array

Understand all software aspects of the library’s Google Workspace and Microsoft platforms, including setup/shutdown practices for staff accounts, calendar management, organization password management, etc.

Have a general understanding of the SPARK catalog and its integration into library circulation operations


Community Coordinator: 

~ 15-20 Hours per week

Special Events – Help lead an in-house library team helping to plan and manage community events

As the dedicated liaison to our town’s Main Street Program (Somerset Inc) and other community partners, you will work with others in the community and bring ideas to our library team in an effort to help plan & coordinate our library’s participation and outreach in special Somerset community events.

 This will require attending regularly scheduled morning and evening planning sessions with our community partners, and bringing event progress reports and updates back to staff meetings for discussion on the best way the library team can support these events.

Examples of current special events include:

Fire & Ice Festival - January

Uptown Chalk the Block Festival- July

Earth Day Festival - April

Light Up Night - November

Used Book Sales (in conjunction with Fire & Ice and Chalk Festivals)

Library Story Stroll (usually included as part of Uptown events)

Uptown Somerset Merchant Meetings

In the Library 

Be the primary contact person for setting up special events and managing library event resources. Specific responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Overseeing setup/teardown of tables, chairs, tents, tech, etc. during events

Ability to climb stairs into the library attic to store and retrieve select event & holiday supplies

Carry at least 50 pounds

Work with our library team to recruit and engage community members, organizations and volunteers to assist in creating dynamic library programming with a focus on developing and directing

Conduct monthly technology education programming for adults
