Job Summary: The Library Services Manager (LSM) provides vision and resilience in advancing Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s mission to foster literacy, enable exploration, and create community connections. At CLP–Allegheny, this role guides a dedicated team and ensures services reflect the diversity and opportunities of the North Side community.
More than a traditional library, CLP–Allegheny is a trusted resource at the heart of the community. Beyond providing access to information, technology, collections, and cultural engagement, the library also plays a vital role in " supporting the community’s evolving needs through partnerships and evaluation of innovative community-oriented services." The LSM must therefore bring both library service excellence and human-centered leadership, while cultivating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.
Location: CLP-Allegheny Pittsburgh, PA
Work Hours: Base schedule of 37.5 hours per week including some evenings and weekends, with additional hours as required.
Compensation: $65,000 (annualized salary)

What You’ll Do:
- Direct the daily functions, staff, and services of the library while ensuring alignment with CLP’s Service Standards.
- Engage with the community by building partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders, ensuring services remain relevant and accessible.
- Support patrons of all ages by fostering a welcoming and safe library environment, with awareness of the complex challenges community members may face.
- Encourage and develop staff, modeling strategic thinking, accountability, and patron-focused service, with a dedication to CLP’s foundational priorities of Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibilty
- Create and adapt programs in literacy, entertainment, adult learning, and digital access that reflect community trends and priorities.
- Use data, evaluation, and feedback to improve services and measure impact.
- Represent CLP–Allegheny within system-wide initiatives and as a visible presence in the neighborhood.
- Coordinate with internal departments and stakeholders to advocate and improve library services and spaces.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of progressive leadership and supervisory experience in a public library; Or, Master's degree in Library Science with 5 or more years of progressive experience and increasing responsibility in a public library.
- Proven ability to guide diverse teams and build inclusive, equitable services.
- Demonstrated experience with community engagement, service design, and when applicable crisis intervention or de-escalation in complex environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage compassionately and professionally across all backgrounds.
- Technological fluency with digital platforms, data analysis, and community storytelling.
- Strategic skills in budget planning, staff development, and cross-department collaboration.
