Located in the southwest corner of the Catskill Park, the hamlets of Livingston Manor and Roscoe boast world class trout fishing streams, hiking, hunting, waterfalls, lakes and ponds, as well as a vibrant community of locally owned businesses. Livingston Manor is known as a “small town with a big back yard” and Roscoe is known as “Trout Town USA.” The hamlets lie in the town of Rockland which is conveniently located approximately two hours from New York City, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

You’ll find a strong sense of volunteerism in both hamlets and a love of nature and local history. The arts are alive with the Catskill Art Space in Livingston Manor and the Roscoe Arts Collective.

The library is an important member of both communities. With a board of 16 dedicated trustees, the library currently includes two branches and is in the preliminary stages of a construction project. The library serves the same district as the Rockland Central School, with approximately a population of 5,000. We are an association library with 9 employees.

The Livingston Manor–Roscoe Library is seeking a dynamic, community-focused leader to serve as its next Library Director. This is a unique opportunity to guide a vibrant rural library system dedicated to enriching lives, inspiring lifelong learning, and fostering an informed and connected community. Position Overview The Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for the overall administration and operation of the library, including staff supervision, financial management, programming, facilities oversight, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is an energetic, organized, and forward-thinking professional who is passionate about public service and community impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary representative and advocate for the library in the community and beyond
  • Supervise and support staff, interns, and volunteers
  • Oversee operations of two library branches, ensuring safe and welcoming environments
  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget and financial processes
  • Build and maintain a relevant and responsive collection of materials and services ● Plan and oversee programs for all ages
  • Cultivate partnerships with schools, organizations, and community groups
  • Support fundraising efforts, including annual appeals and grant writing
  • Coordinate the annual library tax levy referendum
  • Promote library services, resources, and events
  • Maintain compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable laws
  • Prepare reports, including the NYS Annual Library Report and monthly Board updates and agendas
  • Support Board initiatives and community projects such as the Livingston Manor Repair Café and Manor Ink

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience in library management or a related field preferred
  • Financial management and budgeting experience
  • Commitment to community engagement and public service
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively
  • Experience in construction projects a plus
  • Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) degree preferred but not required.

Compensation:

Salary range is $60,000 - $85,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.A benefit package is available.
