This position requires someone with good communication skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision and a strong attention to detail. It is important that the candidate be reliable and comfortable working on a variety of projects. Must have a valid PA Driver’s license. 

Education & Experience:

  • Must possess an associate degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree (preferred).
  • Significant experience working with computerized databases, spreadsheets, and the Internet is necessary.
  • Knowledge of the Dewey Classification System (DDC), the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2), Resource Description and Access (RDA) and general library operations is preferred.
  • Experience collecting data, compiling statistics, and preparing reports is required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Checks titles in the SPARK consortium database for correct bibliographic records; if no record exists, checks the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) for copy cataloging
  • Performs edits on MARC records used by YCL to ensure they are up to local cataloging standards. This includes MARC format, RDA cataloging rules, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) schedules, and standards put forth by the SPARK Cataloging Committee.
  • Performs catalog maintenance to ensure bibliographic integrity and resolves database problems whenever necessary.
  • Coordinates with other Technical Services team members to ensure the accurate processing of materials.
  • Unboxes centralized collections orders and slips them for processing.
  • Additional tasks may include physical processing such as barcoding and labeling. It is also required that you maintain a certain level of quality and productivity to ensure that project work is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Keeps statistics on materials cataloged and plated for grants and endowments.
  • Trains new staff in SPARK Local Cataloging practices in various libraries in York County.
  • Uploads missing cover art into MARC records.
  • Keeps current on developments with OCLC.
  • Attends conferences, activities, staff meetings and actively serves on committees.
  • Performs other related and comparable duties as assigned.
